Look, the majority of us are not getting in the ocean anytime soon, and we're all looking for the next closest thing. A lot of us are stuck at home, with surf movies and Netflix to try and keep the stoke alive. But there's a slight alternative in True Surf an app for iOS and Android that might just be the closest thing we'll get to surfing in these weird times.

And it's pretty unique in the sense that conditions on the app mirror what is going on in real time. If Pipe's pumping, it'll be firing in True Surf too. Your own private getaway. Except there's no nighttime, so you can surf to your heart's content at some of the best waves on the planet. Controls take a bit of getting used to, but once you're in, it's fairly easy-going.

Forecast: Pipeline

Real world spots mimic the wave too and your wave experience really does count. For instance, Pipe is fast, hollow. Bells can be a mushburger and etc. You have to read the sets too, wave selection is key to success, just as it is in real life. You can upgrade boards too – though the app is free, that is locked behind a paywall. It's not essential but if you're enjoying the game then think about dropping some cash on it, it's relatively inexpensive.

You can level up too, and once you do you earn new boards and locations to digitally shred.

Think of it this way, it's probably the only way you'll 'surf' some of the greatest waves of all time without a hounding pack. And sure, it does feel kinda strange talking about surfing on a small device, but as we've nothing else to do right now, might as well take whatever kicks we can get. Let us know how you get on.
