Sri Noa Noa

This trip takes you to following islands and breaks East of Bali including:

Rote: Nemberala, Boa and nearby islands
Sumba: Miller’s Right, Pero Left

...and a whole lot of secret spots we won’t just give away that easy here...

This route is for more experienced surfers and usually we surf most breaks on our own or with very few people around. Your captain has extensive experience in the area and will get you to the best waves on the given conditions. Our Lombok - Sumbawa route offers waves for all levels, from very mellow to ultra hollow - just contact us for more details.

The trip starts in Kupang (West Timor) - an easy non-stop flight from Bali. We pick you up from the airport and set sail for Rote, arriving early next morning. T-Land (also called Nemberala) is the most famous (but not the only) surf break in this wave-rich area: a long left hander, very consistent and rarely maxing out. There are further lefts and rights (such as Boa) on Rote & the nearby islands of Dana, Ndao & Doa, all potentially offering the ride of a lifetime. The rights are good morning options before the trades kick in. They can also fire during shoulder seasons when winds are more variable which is our preferred time to go there.

After a few days around Rote, we cruise West to the lesser known islands of Raijua & Savu. Raijua is a consistent and fast left-hander whereas Savu is an amazing right-hander that needs some swell to break. If you’re lucky, you are guaranteed an unforgettable session. Next, you cross over to the the magnificent islands of Mengkudu, offering a left-handed swell magnet and also a right when the winds cooperate. The next highlight on this route is Terimbang (also known as Miller’s Right), a well-known and consistent right-hander that is spectacular on a big swell. Sessions here can be a highlight of the trip.

Along the Sumbenese coast, there are plenty of lefts and rights just waiting to be discovered and our captain knows where they are. Your last surf is in the Pero area, rich in ancient culture and the typical Sumbanese monolithic villages.
Apart from the world-class surf, the fishing is as good with fresh Sashimi regularly served on our plates. We finish the trip in the port of Waikelo in West Sumba and transfer you to Tambolaka airport for your flight back to Bali.

The Boat:

The Sri Noa Noa is a teak & ironwood construction single-masted schooner. Built in Benoa in 1977 by ex-Americas Cup sailor Philippe Petiniaud, its local design (straight keel and shallow draft) allows access to lagoons and other sheltered areas.

Enjoy the free use of all on board equipment such as a full range of snorkeling and fishing gear, sound system (bring your device), a good collection of music and books, plus an acoustic guitar. The chef will dish up a wholesome and healthy array of Asian and Western foods every day which is already is included in your charter price, as are beers (3 per day), bottled water, juices and soft drinks.

The Crew:

Your captain Heri is fluent in English and fully qualified with 22 years experience operating the Sri Noa Noa between Bali & Timor. These seas and this region are his back yard. He knows all the tide, wind and swell conditions for each break, ensuring you surf the best waves. On top of that, he is passionate photographer and will make sure you’ll go home with some epic surf photos.
He is accompanied by a chef and mechanic who have plenty of experience working with the Sri Noa Noa and deliver a very high level of service and the crew always receives excellent feedback from our customers.
