Fat Face Night Surf at Lusty Glaze

The Fat Face BPSA comp is on 16th-18th June - here's the press bit:

"An awesome beach party will be held at Lusty Glaze beach in June (16-18th) when the UK’s top surfers and crowds of spectators converge on the Cornish wave spot for the Fat Face Night Surf.

Now a legendary event, the Fat Face Night Surf is one of the most popular get-togethers in the British surfing calendar. As well as hot surfing action, there’ll be live music, beach barbecues, extreme activities and surfing lessons from Fat Face team riders.

The Night Surf gets its name because the contest continues until after dark with surfing action illuminated by floodlights positioned on the cliffs around Lusty Glaze beach. This scenic, sandy cove on the outskirts of Newquay forms a natural amphitheatre, perfect for watching the surfers compete on the waves and creating the ultimate beach party atmosphere.

The novelty of a floodlit event always draws a crowd, including some of the best professional surfers from the UK and abroad. Last year Australian Micah Lester and Ireland’s Nicole Morgan took top honours at this prestigious BPSA (British Professional Surfing Association) event. They’ll be back this year to defend their titles against a charge led by Newquay surfer Spencer Hargraves, who is currently the BPSA tour leader.

While the surfers are battling it out in the waves, spectators can enjoy the party atmosphere created by beer tents on the beach and live music from top Cornish bands Chunky Custard, Avalon, plus a secret, special guest star. The Saturday evening comes to a climax with a spectacular firework display over the Cornish cove.

On the Sunday the first ever Fat Face Grommet comp will introduce competition to the up-and-coming surfers for both boys and girls. There will be plenty of opportunity for parents and spectators to get involved with the Fat Academy surf lessons.

Visitors are also invited to make the most of the facilities at the Lusty Glaze complex and try out activities offered by The Adventure Centre, including Coasteering, abseiling and a high-flying zip wire over the top of the beach.

“It really is a spectacular event,” said Tracey Griffiths, head of The Adventure Centre. “Each year, thousands of people come down to the beach to witness the spectacle and join in the fun. With a fantastic line-up of surfers, live bands and food and drink, this year’s Night Surf promises to be the best yet.”

The Night Surf format has been so successful that Fat Face has developed a Night Series of summer events across the country, incorporating the sports of skiing, windsurfing, mountain biking and mountain boarding. It is the world’s only multi-discipline extreme sports series to be held at night and features some of the world’s best extreme athletes.
